Planet-friendly fashion

Australia is the second-highest consumer of textiles in the world with most clothing we purchase made of non-sustainable, non-durable materials. Of all the clothes we send to op shops and charities, a tiny 15% are resold while the rest are sent overseas or straight to landfill. Yikes.

Fast fashion trends come and go in a blink, leaving mountains of textile waste in their wake. But what if there was a better way? A way to keep our wardrobes and manchester fresh and stylish, while minimising our environmental impact?

Join us for a session on REthinking your clothing and textile choices. We’ll talk about what sustainable fashion really means (hint: it’s not spending loads on expensive brands or resorting to an all-woollen wardrobe). It’s about mending, renting, restyling, swapping and respecting the items you already have, while resisting trends and the siren song of fast fashion that bombards us every day.

Together, we'll delve into:

  • the challenges of fast fashion and textile waste
  • the core principles of the circular economy for textiles
  • practical strategies for extending the life of your clothes
  • innovative solutions for keeping textiles in use
  • building a more sustainable and fashionable future.

Whether you're a fashion enthusiast, an eco-warrior, or simply someone looking for creative ways to manage your wardrobe, this workshop has something for you. Let's join the conversation and explore how the circular economy can reshape the fashion industry, one garment at a time!

Who is it for?

This session is for anyone wanting to make more sustainable fashion and textile choices. It's for those wanting to change their fashion habits, find alternatives to buying new, and learn more about mending and restyling their clothes.

About the REthink Nillumbik Project

The REthink Nillumbik Project is a series of fun, interactive workshops to create a more sustainable and liveable Nillumbik. Sessions include a range of activities to help local residents reimagine our collective approach to energy and waste.

REthink events are collaborative, hands-on, and can help people take small actions that can lead to serious, positive change. They include practical demonstrations, creative activities, and simple ideas for rethinking everyday choices and behaviours. We want you to leave each session feeling motivated and empowered to make change. By working together, we can create a more sustainable future for ourselves and generations to come!
