Description
Enjoy a relaxed afternoon of reading, guided conversation and community at our fifth reading party, this time held at The Lock-Up. Bring your current book, discover new favourites, and enjoy the atmosphere among fellow readers.
Solo readers are particularly welcome!
To celebrate in the spirit of the location, perhaps bring along a true crime read! (Though of course, whatever you're currently reading is perfectly okay.)
The Lock-Up does not have an onsite cafe, but drinks will be available for purchase. Refreshments will be available to purchase at nearby cafes; please allow time to purchase prior to arrival.
This is a free community event hosted by Newcastle Writers Festival. Donations are appreciated to help us continue this popular series of reading parties, bringing together book-lovers across Newcastle and the Hunter.

Accessibility
The building has a ramped entrance, accessible unisex toilets and accessible parking at the front. The majority of the Lock-up is accessible to people with mobility issues.
How to get there
Catch the Newcastle Light Rail to Newcastle Beach Rail stop from there, it's a 5 minute walk, or you could catch the bus to Hunter Street or nearby King Street.
Parking
There is limited metered street parking directly on Hunter Street and surrounding laneways, but time limits of 1 - 2 hours usually apply. The best off street parking is at Bolton Street Car Park, number 14 on the map.
The Venue
An 1800s police station reimagined as a contemporary art space. The Lock-Up is a place of vital encounter between contemporary art and audiences, housed within Muloobinba/Newcastle’s original 1861 lock-up on Awabakal and Worimi Country. The Lock-Up supports artists to research, develop, commission, and present ambitious multiform work. Through critical, artist-led, and experimental practice, it creates space to examine the social questions of today and imagine the cultural forms of tomorrow. Note there is no onsite cafe. Drinks will be available to purchase.
