Permaculture Out West (POW) is a network of people living in the western suburbs of Melbourne, learning and practicing permaculture. Permaculture is an ethics-based design framework that applies a set of principles that mimic the patterns and relationships found in nature in order to yield an abundance of food, fibre and energy for provision of local needs. POW has a vision for nurturing empowered and resilient communities in the west. We want environmental sustainability and self-sufficiency to be facilitated through local initiatives such as food swaps, community nursery and gardens, open garden tours, workshops and working bees. Wherever possible, we seek to collaborate with other groups and sectors in our community, facilitating and advocating for more edible gardening and greater food security in the West. POW is a local group under the umbrella of Permaculture Victoria. Our members generally live, work or play in the municipalities of Maribyrnong, Hobsons Bay, Moonee Valley, Brimbank and Wyndham and adjacent suburbs.
