Reading Reconsidered - Southport High
Event description
Presented by Jillian Robinson in partnership with Teach like a Champion, this in-person series of two full day workshops brings Reading Reconsidered to the Australian context. With many schools embedding strong practices in the early years with teaching phonics, these sessions will open up the whole of Scarborough’s reading rope with practical classroom ready techniques. We will build both knowledge and skill throughout the day. All material is considered in the light of the Queensland Department of Education’s Position Statement on Reading. If you’re wanting to learn more about applying the Science of Reading beyond phonics, and you want the practical not just the theoretical, then this PD is for you.
Workshop Outline
- Ways of Reading—Our starting point with the body of knowledge known as the Science of Reading; How to maximise the amount of reading students do and how to balance the use of shared oral and silent reading to create joyful cultures of reading and belonging
