Ready to Speak is a 90-minute session for people who want to get better at speaking : whether you’re thinking about speaking professionally, getting more speaking opportunities, presenting your ideas at conferences and events, or simply becoming much more confident and effective in front of a room.

I’ve been speaking professionally for years: keynotes, conferences, workshops, panels, online sessions and everything in between. I’ve learned a lot about what makes a talk work, what gets you invited back, what audiences actually respond to ... and the things speakers often spend far too much time worrying about.

In this session, I’ll share what I’ve learned.

We’ll look at what to speak about, how to shape an idea into a talk, how to make yourself interesting to event organisers, how to prepare without over-preparing, and how to actually be good on the day.

We’ll also talk about the less obvious stuff: developing your own point of view, finding your speaking style, getting opportunities, dealing with nerves, and working out what makes you worth listening to.

This is not a presentation-skills course.

And it’s not about becoming a polished corporate presenter who can click through 47 slides without saying “um”.

It’s 90 minutes of ideas, experience, practical advice and honest conversation from someone who has spent years making a living from speaking.
