Event description

Join the New England chapter of the ICAA, Architectural Delight, and the newly formed Beaux-Arts Atelier for a co-sponsored Zoom lecture featuring Richard Cameron and his continuing efforts to see a new Penn Station in New York built in the McKim, Mead & White traditions. Cameron, who is a founding member of The Beaux-Arts Atelier, will be joined by Sam Turvey, Chairperson of ReThinkNYC, an organization that has been supporting these efforts to date. The lecture will briefly cover the history of Penn Station and how we got here. The lecture will have a special focus on the current state of play at Penn Station and advocacy efforts around the same.

Cameron, for the first time before the general public, will explain the thinking behind his "McKim Variations" for Penn Station whereby he has created three proposals for Penn Station--all using the McKim Mead & White original as the starting point and prime influence. The "McKim Variations" include a variation that will use the entire two block site of the original, a variation that will use most of the site but leave 2 Penn Plaza standing and a third variation that will use much of the site but leave both Madison Square Garden and 2 Penn Plaza in place (this last "variation" is pictured above). Cameron's presentation will be preceded by Sam Turvey, Chairperson of ReThinkNYC, who will discuss the more recent political history surrounding Penn Station and where the "McKim Variations" fit in. Cameron and Turvey's talk will leave room for live audience questions.
