Price $25 AUD + BF Get tickets

Event description

Direct from the International School of Storytelling in England, Alyssa presents her graduation piece, Reclaiming Forgotten Voices. Weaving song and poetry, myth and fairy tale with a touch of the autobiographical this 45-minute show touched the audience in deep ways, such as: "It was such a moving, vulnerable and fierce piece. An honour to witness."

From the performance brochure:

We can learn a lot from birds. From the darkness within the egg they crack the shell, helpless and dependent upon their parents for survival. They sing before they fly.

But what happens to the birds whose voices are silenced, who don't sing for fear of persecution? Why do we swallow our tongues, close down our hearts and fear to speak?

For many of us, it is harsh words, criticism or judgement that closes us down, for others, it's a fear of stepping into our power and becoming who we were born to be. How much of it is intergenerational trauma that we've internalised as shyness or introversion and a way to keep us safe?

How can we break through the walls of silence that have been imposed either by ourselves or others and step into a voice not afraid to sing, even when our voice shakes?

'The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can' ~ Neil Gaiman.

The venue is in the heart of Fremantle, so grab your friends and come down, watch the show, then grab a drink or something to eat along the Cappucino Strip!
