This 3 part webinar series by Katie Barron will give participants an understanding of the importance of physical examination in both face to face and online consultations. Participants will learn physical exam techniques and how to implement these in their practice.

Webinar 1: Physical Exam Fundamentals

In Part 1 we will cover:

● Introduction to the importance of physical examination in the natural health

practitioners consultation - a deep dive into why it's essential for you and your

practice.

● Clarify the scope of practice for the natural health practitioner

● Learn how physical examination deepens practitioner/client rapport

● Do you know what to do with the information you have gained from your physical

exam?

○ Learn the ‘green/orange/red flag’ system which allows you to make a safe

decision of what to do with the results you have gained.

○ Begin to think of personalised protocols for your own practice.

● Presentation of ‘red flag’ clinical case study highlighting the importance of

flagging results and having robust protocols in practice.

Webinar 2: Physical Exam Techniques

Now that we have the ‘why’ under our belt and we are ready to go, we will deep dive

into three crucial physical exams that you can start using today to improve your patient

care.

1. Observation/Inspection - the general inspection:

The general inspection can give us a huge amount of information about our client

before we have even started asking questions. The client will feel seen, heard and cared for if we take a little time to notice the little (or not so little) things.

2. Pain Assessment:

If a client disclosures pain of any nature and severity, it is important to give it the

respect and time it deserves. Pain can be debilitating and can also be an incredible marker of change.

The pain assessment doesn’t need to be lengthy, but some important questions

can really make a difference to your treatment plans, overall strategy and help the

client feel heard.

3. The most vital of vital signs - blood pressure.

We'll also delve into some of the most common red flags in these areas and show you

how to initiate the physical exam to detect them early on.

Webinar 3: Physical Exam Integration

In Part 3 of this webinar series we will cover

● Time management in consultation - how to use discernment - linking important physical examinations to common presentations

○ What physical examinations are important in:

■ Potential thyroid presentation

■ Potential adrenal fatigue

■ Potential cardiovascular issues

■ Potential gut issues

● Organising yourself, your space and your client

○ What equipment will you need

○ What space will you need - online and face to face consultation

○ Preparing your client

■ Introducing your skills in your marketing and intake forms

■ Ensuring comfortability and consent of your client

Presenter: Katie Barron

After years of private practice, and lecturing on the physical exam subject at college, Katie noticed that many practitioners weren't as confident with this important part of this consultation...
So she set to work developing a training system that makes it super easy to perform the relevant physical exams to clinical practice. 2019 saw a tour of workshops around Australia and Nz...and well, we all know that happened in 2020! Funnily enough, this allowed Katies offerings to deepen to add extra resources to assist with the online consultation.
When Katie is not helping natural health practitioners deepen and refresh physical examination skills, both for the online and face to face consultations, you will find her on the beach, reformer pilates bed, or hanging out with her family and enormous dog.
