Loddon Valley Arts Trail - Red Bricks by Amanda Western

Step directly into living history in a site-created walk-through installation in the unique East Loddon Woolshed. Designed by the famous Bendigo architect William Vahland, this architectural treasure was built in 1871 out of handmade red clay bricks by the ambitious pastoralist and inventor, John Ettershank. Red Bricks is created by artist Amanda Western, a premiere cultural event that blends original linocuts, immersive soundscapes, and animated projections to bring the past to life. As you are guided past wool sorting tables, shearing pens, and yards that, at their height, held 1000 sheep, the story unfolds through the eyes of everyday labourers, the successful but tragic Ettershank family, and their community. There are surprises revealed, and a finale that brings Australia's colonial history out from this extraordinary working woolshed into the clear light of the Loddon skies.

The installation is presented in a low-light historic setting with uneven flooring. Sturdy enclosed footwear with good tread, such as runners or boots, is required. Due to the nature of the historic site, most areas are not wheelchair accessible.
