REDEMPTIVE POETRY

Pain doesn't heal by being ignored. It heals by being walked through, one of my favourite thoughts is “the way out is through.”

Redemptive Poetry is a four-session pathway built on a simple idea: lament only works because of hope. Without believing there's a way through, naming pain is just misery. Each session moves you through one stage of the journey: naming what hurts, searching for what it means, finding what still holds you up, and seeing what's possible from the other side.

As we move through the sessions you’ll explore and rewrite your story, one section at a time, across four weeks, using a form that's carried people through hard seasons for three thousand years.

By the end, you'll have more than a finished piece of writing. You'll have walked the whole path, on paper, in your own words, and be standing somewhere new because of it.

Agenda

  • Session 1 - The Valley

We start by naming what's true. You'll read psalms of lament, journal on what you're carrying, and begin writing your own story

  • Session 2 - The Desert

This session is about searching. You'll read psalms written from dry, uncertain ground, reflect on the bigger picture your situation sits inside, and write into what you're longing and hoping for.

  • Session 3 - The Rock

Here the we start to turn towards hope. You'll read psalms of trust and rescue, reflect on how situations like yours have resolved before, in your own life and in the ancient texts, and write toward what redemption might look like for you.

  • Session 4 - The Mountaintop

The final session is about vantage point. You'll read psalms of praise, finish your piece, and reflect on what new life looks like from here. This is the one session with an optional group share, for anyone who'd like to read what they've written.
