Rediscovering the Hidden Archaeology of the Swan Coastal Plains
Event description
For adults and youth 16+
For more than 30 years, archaeologists have largely avoided excavating Aboriginal sites on the Swan Coastal Plain. Studies concluded further excavations would be a waste of time and money unless new methods and research questions were introduced. Join highly experienced archaeologist Dr Fiona Hook to revisit this long-held assumption by examining recent archaeological projects that have tested sites across the Swan Coastal Plain. These studies challenge the idea that the area lacks significant archaeological potential. Dr Hook highlights new findings, showing that it's time to reconsider the value of this landscape. By applying fresh perspectives and techniques, Dr Hook argues that we can gain important new insights into the deep history of Aboriginal occupation in the region. Light refreshments will be served upon arrival.
