Event description

This month, Reel Justice invites you to bear witness to Powerlands—a powerful documentary by Diné (Navajo) filmmaker Ivey Camille Manybeads Tso.

In a journey that spans continents, Ivey Camille follows the destructive trail of global extractive industries—mining, coal, and even “green” energy—across Navajo Nation, Colombia, the Philippines, Mexico, and Standing Rock. In each place, she meets Indigenous women leading courageous resistance against corporate exploitation and colonial violence.

These struggles are deeply connected. From the toxic legacy of BHP and Glencore to state-sanctioned violence against land defenders in the Philippines, Powerlands shows us that the fight for environmental justice is inseparable from the fight for Indigenous sovereignty.
