Regenerating Place: Our Living River Stories Sydney - Citizen COP 2026
Description
Regenerating Place: A Journey Along the Cooks River
What does it mean to regenerate the places where we live, work and belong?
Join us for an immersive, place-based journey along Sydney’s Cooks River, exploring what becomes possible when we slow down, listen and encounter a familiar place with new eyes.
Through walking, observation, stories and creative exploration, we’ll uncover some of the ecological, cultural and human layers that have shaped this living river, while reflecting on our own relationship with it.
Rather than arriving with solutions for a place, what changes when we begin by learning with place, paying attention to its histories, patterns, relationships and potential?
Together, we’ll explore how deeper connection to the places we inhabit can nurture care, imagination and new possibilities for regeneration.
Facilitators
Vivien Sung — Facilitator, Regenerative Practitioner and Visual Storyteller
Tamara Obradovic — Ecological Urbanist
Location: Starting on the Cooks River, Marrickville (Meeting point will be sent on sign up)
Wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring a hat and water bottle. We’ll stop along the way to listen, observe and reflect through creative activities.

About Citizen COP Australia
Citizen COP Australia is a decentralised, people-powered movement running alongside the global COPs in 2026. Enabled by People For Nature, but intentionally independent and distributed, Citizen COP invites communities, organisations, schools, businesses, artists, and local groups across Australia to host their own events during the COP period. Rather than a single central event, Citizen COP is a nationwide network of conversations, workshops, and actions that bring global climate and nature discussions into local communities. It connects people to science, solutions, and each other, strengthening civic engagement and ensuring citizen voices contribute to Australia’s climate and nature conversations.
