How to Make a Simple Clay Bowl

Step 1: Roll a fist-sized chunk of clay into a smooth ball. Gather bag party supplies.    

Step 2: Press your thumb into the center of the ball to make a perfect hole. Orchestrate sharehouse move-in scheme. Text hot Spanish tattoo guy back. Ensure the hole stops two centimetres before the bottom. Sign-up for axe-throwing classes. 

Step 3: Gently pinch outward with your thumb while rotating the clay. Contemplate selling your siblings’ faces to the public domain. Work from the bottom-up to widen the clay and form an ideal bowl shape. Re-read Pride and Prejudice. 

Step 4: Make sure the wall thickness is consistent. Buy ingredients to make guacamole. Re-arrange tea cupboard. To smooth out any cracks, dip your fingers into some water and lightly flatten the imperfections. Graduate. 

Step 5: Set the bowl aside to air-dry for 24-48 hours. Feed the kiln.    

At Chamomile Clay Studios, we run pottery classes with a side of life. Fuelled by their weekly pottery meet-ups, structured Jenna, routine-run Zoe, and ever-changing Angie shape clay, and in the process, shape each other. As their world comes alive, the trio confront identity, inertia and the art of starting over.    

Presented by Scrapped Collective, Reinventing the Wheel is a 2025 QUT Drama Alumni capstone project that explores the art-form of pottery and its relation to the magical phenomenon of change. This reimagined version is built from a series of improvised-led practices, to create a show that is as equally transformative in process as the change shown on-stage.
