Relaxed, sensory-friendly evening at the Museum

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

A sensory-friendly evening for visitors of all ages and their families, friends and support workers.

Come along to the Museum after hours. Visitors with autism and other sensory or accessibility needs can enjoy a quieter, less crowded visit to the Museum. This is a chance to see all of our permanent galleries, and maybe discover something you've never noticed before!

While everyone is always welcome at the Museum, we acknowledge that sometimes the crowds and noise make visits harder for our neurodivergent visitors and those living with a disability. We will be altering some of the screens, lights and sounds around the Museum to make it a more sensory friendly experience, there will be a low-sensory area for activities and attendees can enjoy exclusive access to the whole Museum.

Staff and volunteers have undertaken Autism Charter Training, and in March 2018, the Museum was declared an Autism Friendly Venue by Autism SA.

You can download our social story for general visits here.

You can download our sensory map here.

This is a ticketed event for people with sensory needs and their accompanying family, friends or support workers. Please register all attendees when you book.

The Café will be open for coffee, tea and light refreshments until 6pm.

The Shop will be open until 7pm.

Help support our Access programming - donate to the Museum today

The South Australian Museum’s aim is to inspire wonder and curiosity about life on Earth and to provide the widest possible access to our visitors.  While entry to the Museum is free, our access programming is solely funded through donations.  We're grateful for every contribution no matter how big or small and your donation will help us to continue to present these programs into the future.
