Renewable Timber: Where does the Forestry Centre of Excellence fit in our region?
Event description
Professor Jeff Morrell is the inaugural Director of the Forestry Centre of Excellence at UniSA.
Prior to joining UniSA, he served as the Director of the National Centre for Timber Durability and Design Life at the University of the Sunshine Coast for 5 years and prior to that directed the wood protection program at Oregon State University for 35 years.
Professor Morrell holds a MSc in Plant Pathology from Pennsylvania State University and PhD in Forest Pathology/Mycology from the State University of New York at Syracuse. He is a native New Yorker but hopes no one will hold that against him.
Timber is one of the few renewable building materials and the Green Triangle grows a lot of it!
South Australia also uses more timber per capita than the rest of Australia. Our goal is to increase our forest resource while ensuring that we maximise its value.
This talk will briefly discuss the positive attributes of timber and then talk about some of the exciting developments to create new timber products to meet growing demand for renewable building products.
