Community Voices Renters Forum for Northwest Sydney
The Sydney Alliance and Tenant's Union of NSW are organising a consultation forum in partnership with the NSW Rental Commissioner, Trina Jones.Â
We have the opportunity to share our experiences as renters, in particular around access to rental homes, cost of living, affordability, energy and climate. This will be a forum focused on renters' experiences and perspectives on solutions.
REGISTRATION IS ESSENTIAL TO ATTEND THIS FORUM
This is a forum for renters: Only people who currently rent their home will be registered as participants in the forums.
Registrations not accepted from housing industry professionals
To ensure all participants feel comfortable sharing, and to manage any conflicts of interest, we will not be accepting registrations from those who disclose they currently work or have a professional connection to the housing industry.
Registrations may be accepted for renters who are also property investors
Renters who own an investment property will be asked to disclose this. We will accept registrations from renters who disclose property investment, but will require them to be transparent about this during the forum.
Please feel free to get in touch via email if you would like us to share outcomes (final report, any other relevant documentation) from the forums or if you would like to discuss further. Email: jemima.mowbray@tenantsunion.org.au
Who else is going to be there?
The NSW Rental Commissioner, the department, and local Members of Parliament who have the responsibility to listen to their constituencies about their rental experiences. All members of government will be observers and invited to share short reflections at the end of the forum.
About our organisations
The Sydney Alliance is a broad-based coalition of civil society organisations across Greater Sydney. We bring together faith groups, community organisations, schools and trade unions to work for the common good of our city.Â
The Tenants Union of NSW is the main resourcing body for the NSW network of Tenants Advice and Advocacy Services (TAASs), and a community legal centre specialising in NSW residential tenancies law. Our primary activities are to provide legal services to economically and socially disadvantaged tenants, provide information and advice to all tenants on their legal rights and obligations, and support advice and advocacy services to tenants. We work to promote the interests of Aboriginal tenants; boarders, lodgers, and other marginal tenants; private rental tenants; public and community housing tenants; and land lease community residents.
