Event description

Queen’s University are delighted to take part in the Northern Ireland wide initiative focused on raising awareness around the power of repairing the items we already have or own.  This could be your favourite jumper to the equipment we use during our working day.  We now live in a very throw away society and sometimes it just feels easier to throw something away and buy new rather than getting it repaired.

We will be joined by:

Tim from Freedom Bikes will carry out a free bike check-up for you.  So don't forget your bike!

Have you a favourite jumper or shirt but it needs a new button or has a rip in it. Bring it along on and our wonderful team of volunteers from Carryduff Repair Café will give you advice and help to repair it.

They have repaired all kinds of things from teddy bears that needed some TLC, to Jeans that needed a patch, replaced buttons and everything in between. (First come first serve 😊

Ever wanted to learn how to thread a needle, sew on a button or try out a sewing machine!  Abigail from Make it Fab will be happy to share her knowledge and skills around sewing and mending. She will have free sewing kits to give away (first come first).

Repair Week is designed to inspire us and make repairing what we already have more attractive, helping us to reduce waste. Repair is a crucial part of helping to build a more resilient, low carbon, circular city.  Within the context of the climate and cost-of-living crises, more and more people are turning to repairs to save money and do their bit for the planet.

Fall back in love with the things you already own and use.

Bring Your Own (BYO) Cup and enjoy free Tea/Coffee and sweet treats.
