Description

Training Force USA is proud to partner with the Bucks County Public Safety Training Institute to bring this essential supervisory training to the region.

A bad report does not just hurt the officer who wrote it. It lands on your desk, and the moment you sign off on it, it becomes yours too.

Dismissed cases. Suppressed evidence. Brady violations. Civil liability. Every one of those outcomes has a paper trail that runs straight through the supervisory review process, and most supervisors were never taught what that review is actually supposed to look like.

This is not a report writing class and not a grammar course. Report Reviews for Supervisors is a full-day, hands-on training built specifically for the people responsible for approving the work of others. Taught by a sitting district court judge with 20-plus years of experience as a defense attorney and prosecutor, every session is grounded in what actually happens when a flawed report reaches the courtroom.

Participants are asked to bring a redacted copy of a recently reviewed report. Those reports become the learning tool.

What You Will Learn

  • What information must be present in every police report and how to spot what is missing

  • How to evaluate reports for factual accuracy, consistency, and investigative completeness

  • How to identify red flags and documentation gaps before they become courtroom problems

  • How Brady v. Maryland and Giglio v. United States apply to the supervisory review process and why every supervisor needs to understand them

  • How supervisory failures in report review expose agencies to civil liability

  • How to establish consistent, defensible review standards across your personnel

  • How to give feedback that improves officer performance without creating additional liability

Who Should Attend

First-line supervisors, sergeants, corporals, newly promoted supervisors, experienced supervisors seeking a high-value refresher, and command staff responsible for policy compliance and agency risk management.

Instructor

Judge Michael D. Carpenter currently serves as the elected judge for Michigan's 75th District Court in Midland County, a position he reached after a career that has touched virtually every corner of the criminal justice system. Before taking the bench, he served as Midland County's Prosecuting Attorney for over a decade, winning three consecutive elections. Before that, he spent 10 years as a criminal defense attorney in private practice.

That combination of perspectives is exactly what makes this course different. Judge Carpenter does not just teach courtroom theory. He teaches what actually works, drawn from 20-plus years of watching officers succeed and fail on the stand from every seat in the room.

He is a sought-after lecturer at universities and professional associations, and a featured instructor with Training Force USA.
