In this session, Representation in Action: Building a Legacy in Project Management, participants will learn how overcoming personal challenges and embracing diverse perspectives can shape effective leadership in project management.
Haryanni Masarip will share her journey of overcoming obstacles as a Malay student in a Chinese school, representing Borneo at university, and thriving as a woman in the oil and gas construction sector. Through personal anecdotes, she will highlight how being in underrepresented spaces shaped her leadership style and passion for inclusion, while demonstrating how diverse perspectives drive innovation in sustainability and project management.
The session will also provide insights into the importance of resilience, authenticity, and leading by example, with practical takeaways on fostering inclusive teams, building stronger leadership skills, and promoting sustainability within organisations. Participants will reflect on how representation impacts leadership and how underrepresented voices can bring unique strengths to the table, engaging in interactive discussions or a Q&A for further exploration.

With nearly two decades of experience, Haryanni Masarip has demonstrated resilience and leadership across diverse industries, from overseeing multi-million-dollar projects in oil and gas to pioneering sustainability initiatives in construction. As a former Head of Project Facilities on a mega project and a key player in shaping her company’s project management practices, she brings a wealth of knowledge to the table.
Certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP), Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), and Green Project Manager (GPM-b), Haryanni's driven by a passion for integrating sustainability into project delivery. As the founder of Empowerment PM Solutions, she now mentors and coaches project professionals, empowering them to build sustainable growth in their careers and organisations.
Haryanni's career began as a Project Engineer, where she gained hands-on experience managing contractors and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Over time, she took on strategic roles in Project Management Offices (PMO), leading cross-departmental programs and initiatives to drive innovation, training, and sustainability practices across organizations. She has also served as a mentor and advisor in the project management community, co-founding Women in Project Management (WiPM) Malaysia, and participating in international conferences.
Now based in Australia, she continues to contribute to academia, working as a lecturer at the University of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney, sharing her industry insights with the next generation of project professionals.
