Workshop with Aukje Boonstra ( www.ausrags.com.au )

TWO DAY EVENT: Saturday 16th July & Sunday 17th July 10am - 4pm  $220 with *accomodation package for two nights an extra $200.

Location: The F Project, 224 Timor St, Warrnambool

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING WITH YOU:
1. Garments out of your wardrobe or op shop you want to turn into something different such as T shirts, tops and/or skirts.

2. Fabrics which compliments the items you want to work with, which could be other pieces of clothing you want to cut up. Scarves, velvets, silks etc. Materials which drape well are good. Stretch fabrics and velvets are also great for trimmings.

3. Embellishments of your choice, such as buttons, beads, lace, doyleys, found objects, anything you can think of.

4. Embroidery threads, linen threads, wool threads and fancy knitting yarn. Fine Perle embroidery yarn.

5. Sewing kit including scissors.  Sewing cottons.

6. Notebook or sketch book with biro/pencils.

7. Sewing Machine.  All the bits what go with it, threads, needles etc.

If  you have a sewing  mannequin bring one, if you can.

"Repurpose, remake, recycle and care for the environment by transforming discarded clothing  into a unique wearable art piece.

Take a shirt, t-shirt, jumper or cardigan out of your wardrobe, which may be out of date, or you found at an opportunity shop. Something about the garment appeals to you, the colour, the texture or the feel of it.  But you would not wear them as they are. They need something…

  • Learn how to turn it into a unique trendy wearable art piece;
  • Together with other pieces of clothes, knits, collected fabrics, embellishments, bits of lace and doyleys and what ever else you can think of;
  • Cut off, add on, play, stitch, embellish, have fun and be creative. You can spend the time available on one piece or you may like to start another piece and finish them later at home; and
  • Gain confidence and give your self permission to cut into clothes. Then start thinking of ways how to fix them and turn them into a unique garment, which will be a real talking point. Enjoy wearing something very different which has been your own creation.

Expected out come of this workshop:

  • Make a trendy wearable art piece out of outdated or second hand pieces of clothing;
  • New sewing  and stitching ideas and skills  may be developed; and
  • Problem solving as you go."

An extra note from Aukje:

Old Fashion.....Transformed by Aukje Boonstra
When booking in for this workshop you would have received a workshop
description and a requirements list.
Of course you can work with any pieces of clothing you have, to want to give a
make over. But over the last few years I have used a lot of shirts. There is such an
abundance of those in thrift shops. Man shirts are often made out of beautiful
materials. I have also used a lot of linen and silk shirts. All what is often
considered wrong with them is that they are outdated or in need of minor repairs.
For that reason I will bring quite a few transformed garments done with shirts to
inspire you. I will do some demonstrations using shirts. You may like to bring a
few shirts to have a go with, as well as what you were going to work with in the
first place.
I often use quite a few shirts to build one garment with, or just use one shirt and
work with that.
So if you want to have a try, bring a few to play with.
Till soon.
Aukje
