SB 827 Fiscal & Financial Training

Online Event

Add to calendar

Fri, Dec 4, 12pm - 2:15pm EST

Description

This two-hour session satisfies the new fiscal and financial training requirement under SB 827, effective January 1, 2026. Topics include municipal budgeting, financial reporting, capital financing, debt management, and the ethical stewardship of public resources.

This session satisfies your SB 827 fiscal and financial training requirement. Government Code § 53238 requires covered local agency officials, including members of a local agency's legislative body, to complete at least two hours of fiscal and financial training every two years.

Who should attend. This session is designed for:

  • Commissioners — as members of your Commission's legislative body

  • Executive Directors and agency executives

  • Staff who make decisions or recommendations on financial administration, budgeting, or the use of public resources

  • Any employee your Commission has designated to receive this training

If someone in one of these roles already meets a formal fiscal training requirement specific to their position, they may be exempt. Check with your county's legal counsel to confirm.

All Commissioners welcome. This training is open to the public, so counties are welcome to send their full Commission. Because the session covers general training content rather than county-specific business, a gathering like this one — open to the public and covering general training content rather than county-specific business — does not constitute a "meeting" under the Brown Act (Government Code § 54952.2(c)(2)). Multiple Commissioners from the same county may attend together without triggering the Act's requirements. If several Commissioners from one county are attending, we ask that chat participation and comments stay focused on the training content, rather than deliberation on your Commission's own pending business.

Cost. $50 per attendee, payable at registration.
