In Research Leadership: Building Research Teams you will learn about building and leading effective research teams across disciplines, career stages and sectors. This session will cover skills including:

  •  Managing up and down;
  • Managing expectations;
  • Achieving consensus in diverse groups;
  • Recognising and responding to different ways of working;
  • and communicating your intent with clarity and purpose.

The workshop is targeted at mid-career researchers but open to the entire UTS research community. The workshop will be recorded by uploaded onto the UTS Aspire site at the conclusion of the event.

This workshop will be presented by Prof Frances Shannon, Outside Opinion and co-ordinated by UTS Aspire. 

Prof Frances Shannon has extensive leadership and senior management experience within higher education and medical research institutes and is now an Emeritus Professor at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University. Her background includes degrees (BSc(Hons) and PhD) in biochemistry and zoology from University College Dublin, a successful 25 year career in biomedical research, followed by 10 years in senior university management.
