Event description

Have you got the entrepreneurial bug but wonder what it is actually like being a startup founder?

Join us for our inaugural NSW Small Business Commission networking event focused on supporting young entrepreneurship by bringing together like-minded peers to share stories and learnings. This exclusive panel discussion features three incredible startup founders, taking a deep dive into their startup journeys and what led them to their lightbulb moment. We will hear about their triumphs and defeats, what's made their journeys successful and what they have learnt along the way as they commercialise their ideas.

This will be a catered event with nibbles and drinks, where alcohol will be served.
*all persons who look under the age of 25 may be asked to provide a proof of identification as per legal RSA requirements.

This panel will cover an array of topics all related to being a founder:

  • Idea generation
  • Launching your product and standing out
  • Growth and scaling

Panelists:

Susan Gavin - Founder and Industry Watch Maker - Galvin Watch Company

Susan is an industry accredited watchmaker who has worked for Tag Heuer and Omega. In March 2020 she established her own watch brand Galvin Watch Company after conducting an incredibly successful crowdfunding campaign, which launched the company's first collection, the Alku Collection. Susan has established her presence in the e-commerce space with the launch of galvinwatchcompany.com.au. The Loimu Collection was successfully launched on Kickstarter in March 2022.

    Chris Evans - Founder, Experlio

An experience of picking the 'wrong' career combined with a pile of debt from a degree that proved useful for less than a year meant there had to be a better way for others like Chris to find their dream career. A challenging but exciting journey, Chris pivoted careers and discovered agile learning in the process which accelerated his own learning and career journey.

Inspired to make a difference he started Experlio (experience-portfolio) and shared his approach to learning with over 100 student clients, of which the common feedback received was they felt like they were learning 4 years in 4 weeks! He's since grown Experlio into a freemium EdTech platform with a mission to support 1 million people into creative career paths, and thousands of new members joining each month

Nikhil Challa - Founder & CEO, Flipspot

Nikhil is the founder of Flipspot, the world’s first stock-exchange for the marketplace. He found the idea of selling online quite frustrating, and would often list products at a huge discount to attract buyers faster. Buying was no easier, as he was forced to jump between websites and haggles with buyers on Gumtree until he found something within his budget.

At the same time, he noticed how quick it was to trade stocks, and questioned why this proven concept didn’t exist in this multi trillion dollar marketplace sector. That’s when he decided to combine both worlds into one with Flipspot, a free marketplace app that connects buyers and sellers in real-time with the best price. With automated order matching, real-time trading alerts, and interactive pricing tools, Flipspot aims to reinvent the way people buy and sell around the world.
