Event description

The Resilient Food in the Mid West Forum, hosted by the Mid West Food Industries Alliance and made possible with Community Impact Funding through the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) seeks to invite both members of industry and the wider community to come together to explore the theme of Resilient Food in the Mid West.

Forum topics will include:

  • The landscape of food production in the Mid West
  • Resilient food waste
  • Resilient soils
  • Resilient water
  • Resilient supply chains
  • Resilient innovations.

Each session will match a short presentation from a key note speaker, along with an update from a local Mid West Food producer to share insight into how they are building resilience in their food production systems. The aim of the day is to build a conversation around the elements of Resilient Food in the Mid West and to showcase both information and opportunities, along with 'on the ground insight' into what is happening in the Mid West region.

The forum will be hosted at the Irwin Recreation Centre, Ridley Street, Port Denison and will finish with a visit to two local farms, including a sausage sizzle and networking. Please note that we are unable to cater for dietary requirements in this instance but will endeavour to have a small selection of morning tea and lunch options.

The farm visits will include:

  • Wye Farm Organics: meet Fiona & Anton and see how they are producing organically in the Mid West.
  • Collier & Son Orchards: meet Chris and see his newly netted orchards in action, and finish the day with a sausage sizzle and light refreshments courtesy of New Leaf Connect.

This project is supported by FRRR, through funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund.
