Event description

Over the course of two half-day sessions, within the context of Start by Believing, Di and Kerrin will provide specialist trauma informed, healing centred training on responding to disclosures of sexual violence. Disclosures come in a variety of forms, and for busy workers in the sexual, domestic & family violence sector, disclosures can sometimes be overlooked or masked by other forms of violence and trauma.

By exploring the experiences of victim/survivor this workshop series will unpack:

  • Relationship dynamics
  • Types of disclosures
  • Barriers to disclosure
  • Containment and safety strategies
  • Best practice and next steps
  • Cultural, legal and ethical considerations

Participants in the domestic & family violence, women’s health and wellbeing, and sexual violence sector will gain confidence, knowledge, skills and capacity to respond to disclosures of sexual violence in the context of their own therapeutic and educational work.

Please note this is a two part series. Participants should attend all sessions.

Time: 9:30am - 12:30pm

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand a range of responses relating to the timing and types of disclosures
  • Enhance capacity in responding to disclosures from a wide range of individuals
  • Strengthen ability to prioritise safety following a disclosure
  • Increase skills in providing a trauma informed response
  • Develop knowledge of resources and possible referral sources

    This workshop is targeted at people working in the sexual assault, women’s health and wellbeing and domestic and family violence sector.

    About the facilitators

    This training will be delivered by Di Macleod and Kerrin Bradfield from the Gold Coast Centre Against Sexual Violence.

    Di Macleod (MCommMgt (candidate), BA[SocSci], Dip Counsel) 

    Di Macleod is the Director of the Gold Coast Centre Against Sexual Violence. Di is a longstanding advocate with thirty years of education and training in the area of of violence against women.

    Kerrin Bradfield (MSexol. PGradDipPublicHlth, BA[Psych], DipCounsel)

    Kerrin Bradfield is the Education & Engagement Co-ordinator at the Gold Coast Centre Against Sexual Violence. Kerrin is an accredited Sexuality Educator and passionate consent activist. She has fifteen years of education and training in the area of women's sexual health and well being.
