The Centre for Women's Safety and Wellbeing, in collaboration with InTouch Multicultural Centre Against Family Violence, warmly invites registrations for two online training workshops to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and confidence of practitioners when responding to family violence within migrant and refugee communities.

Culturally Responsive Practice and Responding to Family Violence

Thursday, 8 October, 9am–4pm (WA Time), Online

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

• Reflect on their professional practice through the application of culturally responsive practice, cultural humility, awareness of unconscious bias, and an intersectional approach.

• Analyse how systemic barriers and discrimination affect the capacity of clients and families from migrant and refugee backgrounds to access and sustain service support.

• Explore and respond to the impacts of migration, visa status, and complex family dynamics on migrant and refugee clients and families throughout intake, assessment, and safety planning.

• Apply the principles of culturally responsive practice when working with clients and families from migrant and refugee backgrounds who are navigating multiple systemic barriers and discrimination

• Discuss how systemic barriers and discrimination influence the capacity of clients and families from migrant and refugee backgrounds to seek and sustain service support.

• Explore and respond to the impacts of migration, visa status, and complex family dynamics as they arise during intake, assessment, and safety planning.

• Apply the principles of culturally responsive practice when engaging with clients and families from migrant and refugee backgrounds who experience multiple systemic barriers and discrimination.

• Recognise the importance of identifying visa status when supporting migrant and refugee women experiencing family violence.

• Examine how visa status shapes the experiences of family violence for migrant and refugee women and their children.

• Identify different visa types, their associated conditions, obligations, and implications for eligibility to access services and supports.

• Navigate referral pathways and access accurate information about supports available for women on various temporary visa types.
