Event description

Restore the Richmond River - Kyogle Forum

The Richmond River is in crisis. Two river champions, Graeme Gibson and Steve Posselt, are taking their tinnie from sea to source during RiverFest to spark action.

Join the Kyogle public forum to share stories, hear the plan, and help build the momentum to restore the river.

When: Tue 7 Oct 2025, 6:00–7:30 pm

Where: (Venue TBC)

Cost: Free

Why it matters

  • The river is now often un-swimmable, un-fishable and undrinkable.

  • Community members remember a different river — and want it back.

  • A visible, community-led push can help secure coordinated, catchment-wide action.

What we’ll cover at the forum

  • The state of the Richmond River and what’s driving decline

  • Community stories: what the river was — and what it could be

  • A practical pathway to restore river health, including pursuing a single coordinating body.

  • How people, councils, industry and all levels of government can work together

How you can help

  • Come along and share your story

  • Back the call for coordinated action across the catchment

  • Volunteer / partner / chip in to keep the momentum going

This event is part of Richmond RiverFest. Presented by the Richmond Riverkeeper, Richmond Riverfest is a month-long celebration of the rivers, cultures, and communities of the Northern Rivers. The festival brings together Custodians, community groups, conservation organisations, artists, and educators to honour our river systems through storytelling, public events, and a shared commitment to protection and restoration.
