Restoring rickety chairs: What’s missing from “person-centred” care?
Description
Many practitioners believe that Person-Centred Care (PCC) is solely about listening and validating people’s feelings. Many accredited degrees exclude two of PCC’s three essential components, and even many “person-centred” supervisors and lecturers are unfamiliar with these components. Do you understand how CBT, DBT and other popular behavioural approaches are ideologically incompatible with PCC? Do you know the difference between "client-centred" and "person-centred" practice and the important political and systemic implications of this distinction? Are you familiar with anti-racist, systemic critiques of PCC? Do you know who benefits from reductionist mischaracterisations of PCC? Come learn about all three core components of PCC, examine anti-oppressive critiques of both PCC and its critics, and practice anti-oppressive, systemic ways of applying the full method.
