Restoring Self-Trust: Healing Your Relationship to Food and Your Body with IFS with Marcella Cox

In this 6-hour experiential workshop, you will:
- Understand how to integrate IFS into your approach to working with your clients struggling with food and their body.
- Explore how cultural, legacy and personal burdens affect our parts and disrupts connection to the body.
- Learn several IFS interventions that you can use with your clients.
- Engage in large group discussion, guided meditations and small group exercises to deepen your understanding of your internal system.
- Connect with parts of you that carry different beliefs, emotions, and energies regarding food and your body.
- Explore how these parts are trying to protect you, their fears and what they need to feel safe enough to soften and trust you.
- Gain clarity on how to cultivate a more harmonious, Self-led relationship with food and your body in order to help guide your clients.
This workshop is an introduction to using IFS to heal our relationship with food and body. It is suitable for those who are newer to IFS or have a basic understanding of IFS and are ready to connect with their inner system in a compassionate and transformative way.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe two basic assumptions of the IFS model and its non-pathological approach.
- Identify 3 types of parts in the IFS model.
- Explain 3 differences between Manager and Firefighter parts.
- Describe how burdens from culture, families and personal experiences disrupt embodiment.
- Describe common polarizations when working with clients with disordered eating and eating disorders.
- List three cultural legacy burdens that impact how you relate to food and the bodyÂ
- List two common fears protectors hold about shifting out of their roles of focusing on or disconnecting from food and the body
About Marcella Cox, LMFT, CEDS-C, Certified IFS Therapist & Approved Clinical Consultant
Marcella Cox, LMFT & Certified IFS Therapist has dedicated her career to treating disordered eating, body shame, and trauma. Marcella recently contributed the chapter on IFS and Disordered Eating in Altogether Us: Integrating the IFS Model with Key Modalities, Communities, and Trends (Pivotal Press, 2023). She is also on the teaching staff for Susan McConnell, developer of Somatic IFS, an approach that blends the IFS model of therapy with embodiment practices. As an Approved IFS Clinical Consultant, Marcella provides professional consultation and supervision. She also leads workshops, trainings and retreats. Her certifications as a Body Trust Provider, Daring Way Facilitator and Mindful Self-Compassion Teacher also inform her professional work. Â
Marcella is the founder of Kindful Body, a collaboration of experienced eating disorder professionals providing online therapy and nutrition counseling throughout California. She also co-founded the IFS Telehealth Collective with lead IFS trainers, Mariel Pastor, LMFT and Paul Ginter, Ed.D.
