Retain Repair Reinvest: Ascot Vale offers a powerful look at Ascot Vale Estate in Melbourne, a public housing site that was once slated for demolition. Through interviews with residents, photos by architectural photographer Ben Hosking, and essays by architects, academics, and economists, this publication uncovers the environmental, social, and economic costs of demolishing such estates. It presents a compelling case for preserving and investing in public housing—offering a timely exploration as Melbourne’s high-rise towers face the threat of demolition, displacing thousands of residents.
This book is a call to action, highlighting the value of the housing assets we already have and advocating for a future that prioritizes sustainability, equity, and community.
We look forward to celebrating the launch of the book and event space with you.
