REthink: Intro to the circular economy
Event description
The REthink Nillumbik program is funded by Nillumbik Shire Council and supported by Edendale Community Environment Farm and NECAH (Nillumbik Environment and Climate Action Hub). The project will be delivered by Going Green Solutions and supports Council's climate action goal of net-zero community emissions by 2035.
REthink: Intro to the circular economy
Join us for a crash course in the ‘circular economy’, and how we can move away from the damaging TAKE-MAKE-USE-WASTE
model to become a community that promotes sharing, repairing and reusing materials and products instead. We'll
explore the three simple principles behind a circular economy and what they might mean to your household. We’ll
also delve into the main problem industries/areas for unsustainable energy use and waste generation, and
brainstorm exciting ways we can tackle them as individuals and as a community.
And no, this is not a lecture! Instead, the session will include plenty of group discussion, creative activities and collaborative problem-solving. Using seven simple "REthink actions", we’ll find practical ways to create a new type of economy based on human and environmental wellbeing instead of consumption and waste.Â
This interactive workshop is perfect for anyone interested in a more sustainable future. Leave with practical ideas to
implement in your own life and a newfound understanding of the circular economy's power to revolutionise our
world.
Topics include:Â
- What is the circular economy
- What are the big issues we need to tackle
- Introducing the REthink principles of refuse, reduce, repair, reuse, repurpose, replace, and recycle
- How we can use REthink principles to eliminate waste and energy depletion
- Simple, fun ideas for implementing REthink in our homes and everyday actions
