Retraining people with post-stroke upper limb ataxia: A case study

Date: Mon 28th Sept 2026

Cost: Free

Time: 6:00pm - 7:00pm - Sydney, Australia (AEST), 9:00am - 10:00am (UK time)

Presenter: Dr. Annie McCluskey (Occupational therapist, Director at the StrokeEd Collaboration)

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the presentation, attendees will be able to:

  • Describe guideline recommendations and (limited) research on interventions to treat post- stroke ataxia

  • Use a goal directed framework for analysing motor performance, reach to grasp and hand coordination when a person has ataxia

  • Identify training strategies, part practice and measurements to use

Description:

In this presentation, Annie will focus on analysis and retraining with a woman who had moderate ataxia post-stroke. Her goal was to pick up and drink from a glass without spilling liquid, to use cutlery in both hands, and return to playing drums. Videos taken from 2023 to 2025 will show the initial assessment and practice tasks, followed by change in her performance over time.

All lectures will be recorded and available on our lecture library - https://strokeed.com/lectures/
