Event description

Revisions is a groundbreaking body of work that challenges colonial narratives, amends historical omissions, and amplifies the voices of the Warlpiri people, whose stories and traditions have been passed down for generations.

At its heart, this project is a reinterpretation of colonial symbols — an opportunity to shift perspective and meaning. Through the combined voices of the Warlpiri artists of the Tanami Desert and British photographer Patrick Waterhouse, Revisions offers a fresh, collaborative lens on our shared history. Rather than rewriting history with bitterness or blame, Revisions gently reveals an alternative story — one that acknowledges the complexities of the past while offering hope for a more united future. It holds space for truth, understanding, and connection.

Join us for an afternoon of reflection and dialogue featuring:

  • Introduction by Cecilia Alfonso OAM, Manager, Warlukurlangu Artists

  • Presentation by Patrick Waterhouse

  • Screening of True Story — a short film

  • Q&A with Patrick Waterhouse and Warlukurlangu Artists

About the Speakers
Patrick Waterhouse
 (b. 1981, England) explores how histories are constructed and retold. His practice is defined by deep, long-term collaboration — including over a decade of work with Warlpiri communities in Central Australia, sharing archival materials that became sites for artistic response and cultural reclamation. His exhibitions include the Pannett Gallery (UK, 2025), Rautenstrauch–Joest Museum Kulturen der Welt (Germany, 2023), and FotoMuseum (Belgium, 2019). His work is held in major international collections, including the Centre Pompidou and the Guggenheim Museum.

Warlukurlangu Art Centre
was established in 1985 in Yuendumu, 290 km northwest of Alice Springs, and is one of the oldest Aboriginal-owned art centres in Central Australia. Named after a Dreaming site meaning “belonging to fire,” it supports artists from Yuendumu and Nyirripi to sustain and share Warlpiri culture through art.

Cecilia Alfonso OAM
is the long-standing Manager of Warlukurlangu Arts, leading one of Australia’s most successful Aboriginal-owned art centres. She was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2023 for her service to the arts.
