This talk series is a fantastic opportunity to:

  • Gain practical insights into the Australian Research Council (ARC) funding process and research grants.

  • Learn from a globally recognised researcher with extensive experience in research leadership and innovation.

  • Explore cutting-edge portable analytical technologies with applications in healthcare, environmental monitoring, and agriculture.

Day 1: 15 September 2026 : 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Experience with the ARC from both inside and outside

Drawing on his experience across the Australian Research Council (ARC) funding process, Professor Michael Breadmore will share practical insights into preparing competitive grant applications, understanding assessment criteria and navigating the ARC landscape.

Day 2: 16 September 2026 : 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Miniaturised and Portable Systems

Traditional sample analysis relies on collection and transport to a central laboratory, often delaying results and action. This presentation explores the challenges of translating laboratory methods into portable analytical systems and highlights innovative solutions developed over the past decade to deliver laboratory-quality data in the field. Applications include personalised pharmacokinetics, autonomous water monitoring, rapid screening of homemade inorganic explosives, and on-site measurement of fertiliser in soil.
