Description

Do you know which plants are right for your garden?

This class is designed for those interested in incorporating California native plants into their home or community garden but who are not sure where to begin. Join us online to explore the why, what, when, and how of planting with native plants.

Understanding the native habitats and seasonal patterns of Southern California can help you select plants well-suited to your space. This course introduces local plant communities—groups of species that naturally grow together—and the conditions in which they thrive. Participants will also learn how to assess important garden conditions including climate, soil, sunlight, water, and available space, along with resources that can support plant selection and garden planning. A helpful class for beginners!

Right Plant, Right Place is the required introductory course for our 3-Part Design Series and is recommended either before or concurrently with the design course.

Terrence Williams is the Nursery Technician at Theodore Payne Foundation. He is passionate toward making botanical knowledge accessible to all by helping people of various skill levels and backgrounds to get started with gardening.
