Event description
Midland Junction Arts Centre presents Ripairian, an immersive exhibition and performance led by Vahri McKenzie and Gemma Ben-Ary celebrating Mandoon Bilya (Helena River) through riverwork, performance and community connection.
Experience the Ripairian installation, followed by live music with Michael Terren in the Auditorium, as he accompanies a livestream of the river.

1pm | Guests arrive to experience the Ripairian installation in the Project space
1.30pm | Introduction by Gemma Ben-Ary
1.40pm | Live music in the Auditorium by Michael Terren alongside a livestream of the performance at the river
2.30pm | Mingle with refreshments and revisit the gallery

Guided by three cues: rubbish, weeds, and graffiti, a group of professional and volunteer artists respond to ecological and social complexities to reveal a place that's vulnerable to waste and neglect and is vibrant and resilient despite this.
Refreshments will be provided during the event.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Vahri McKenzie is an artist, educator and scholar whose artistic practice frames creative engagement as a model and practice for ways of being together in a complex world. She is passionate about shared creative experiences that are transformative for individuals and for communities and responds to local situations to develop concepts for participation and collaboration.
Gemma Ben-Ary is a visual artist and curator based in Perth, Western Australia, focussed on feminist theory, eco-feminism, and contemporary craft. An accomplished curator with a passion for Western Australian art and culture, she serves as Chairperson at Art on the Move.
Michael Terren is a musician and composer using keyboards and electronic media. His work draws from experimental tradition but tends to be accessible, encouraging listeners to contemplate and conceptualise on specific themes. Michael is a casual academic at WAAPA, where he teaches music composition.
