RISING SILENCE; Uniting Music & Community to Support Safety from Domestic Violence
Event description
RISING SILENCE is a new event initiative created by a DV survivor who now works consistently in the entertainment and music industries and communities; the purpose of RISING SILENCE is to raise funds for those experiencing DV who don't have the same support system, resources, knowledge or abilities for any reason to free themselves of their home scenarios and build their life back as she did.Â
This Saturday January 11th from 9pm til 3am in Kings Cross at Mansions will welcome the first iteration of the events, with 6 incredible external collaborative brands/collectives/events from varyings communities and soundscapes coming together to provide a good time for a great cause - taking over half of the historic Sydney venue, room takeovers will be led by:
RITMO x BUMP IN
YANOS x JAIVA TV
INTERLUDE x JSPÂ
100% of proceeds, ticket sales and revenue is going to charity. All artists, DJs, creatives and external collaborators as well as the venue and the woman creating the concept and leading the events are donating their time and efforts to assist in raising funds for DV, which affects so many AUST wide. Â
Due to this being held in Kings Cross at Mansions venue, we have selected to collaborate with Kings Cross' Wayside Chapel and pour all funds raised and any/all profit into their Women's Space. The Wayside Chapel Women's Space is a warmer safe space than what some may be used to from shelters or safe havens..
Women’s Space; Wayside Chapel's Women’s Program was established to provide care and support to all visitors who identify as women, and non-binary people. The team works alongside women to provide trauma-informed care coordination, addressing barriers to wellbeing such as experiences of domestic and family violence, complex mental health, homelessness and financial disadvantage, and much more. The program offers care coordination support as well as community engagement activities and events.
It operates out of a dedicated space, where women can connect with each other over a cuppa. The space is a calm oasis within Wayside, offering laundry facilities, shower and toiletries, phone charging station, games, books and resources, creative activities and access to a computer. For many women, it is a welcoming place to ‘just be’. Â
