Rex J Lipman Public Lecture featuring Marc Randolph

St Peter’s College is delighted to welcome Marc Randolph as part of the Rex J Lipman Fellows Program.

Marc Randolph is an entrepreneur, investor and the co-founder and founding CEO of Netflix, the pioneering movie and television streaming service that transformed the way the world watches entertainment.

We invite you to join us for this free public lecture, That Will Never Work: The Birth of Netflix and the Amazing Life of an Idea, as Marc shares the unlikely story behind the creation of Netflix, exploring the ideas, challenges and lessons learned from building one of the world’s most influential technology companies. Through stories of innovation, persistence and resilience, Marc will inspire audiences to think differently, embrace failure as part of the creative process and recognise the potential in ideas that others may overlook.

About Marc Randolph
Marc Randolph is the co-founder and founding CEO of Netflix, the global streaming service that revolutionised the entertainment industry.

Although best known for starting Netflix, Marc’s entrepreneurial career spans more than four decades. He has founded more than half a dozen successful start-ups, mentored countless early-stage entrepreneurs and invested in numerous technology ventures. His experience building companies from the ground up has established him as a respected voice on entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership.

Marc is the author of the internationally bestselling memoir That Will Never Work: The Birth of Netflix and the Amazing Life of an Idea, which chronicles the early days of Netflix and the lessons learned from transforming an unconventional idea into a global success story.

Most recently, Marc co-founded analytics software company Looker Data and continues to support emerging entrepreneurs as an advisor, CEO coach and board member for a range of innovative start-ups.

Through his experiences, Marc explores the importance of curiosity, experimentation, resilience and the willingness to challenge conventional thinking. His story demonstrates that success rarely comes from having all the answers, but from testing ideas, learning from setbacks and having the persistence to keep moving forward.

About the Rex J Lipman Fellows Program
The Rex J Lipman Fellows program brings the world’s best thinkers and leaders to St Peter’s College. A free public lecture gives everyone in the community the opportunity to discuss, debate and engage with leaders and commentators from a diverse range of fields. St Peter’s College passionately believes in the value of education and public debate, and delights in bringing distinguished national and international speakers to the broader South Australian community.

The benefactor of the Fellows Program, the late Dr Rex J Lipman AO ED OLH ONM (1922 – 2015) attended St Peter’s College from 1933 to 1937. Rex was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1989 for his contribution to the banking and thoroughbred horse racing industries, and, in 2008 he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to education, tourism and the hotel industries. In the 1990s, the French government acknowledged his services to France by making him a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur and an Officier in the Ordre National du Mérite. In July 2014, in the Bastille Day Honour’s List, he was promoted to the rank of Officier de La Légion d’Honneur – an extremely rare honour for an Australian. Rex is missed by the St Peter’s College community but his legacy lives on through the Rex J Lipman Fellows Program.
