Event description

Synopsis

We connect with the ‘Man in the Chair’ as they look back at the 1928 comedy production of The Drowsy Chaperone, a golden age musical about an eccentric group of characters gathered for the wedding of Janet Van de Graaff and Robert Martin. Before the wedding has even begun, a calamity of characters, each with their individual opinions on the event, collide as they try to reach their own ends. The show becomes a fiasco of colour and ridiculously exaggerated personalities accompanied by an eclectic but energetic score. Despite all scheming, ‘cheating’, and ice-water related incidents, everyone finds love in the end: what’s not to love?
