He has also organised comedy venues and events, including jointly establishing Beyond Comedy, Canberra’s first comedy show curated specifically to be inclusive of female and non-binary comedians.
In 2022, Tom completed a Creative PhD at the University of Canberra that focused on the way authors of Young Adult Fiction portray the identity development of their protagonists. His PhD included writing a humorous Young Adult novel inspired by the findings of his research. Tom has also been published over fifty times in various online publications, such as the Canberra Times, Roar.com and the Bateman’s Bay Post.

CHRIS RYAN
A journalist, a Mum and now one of the most exciting new voices on the Australian comedy scene, Chris Ryan won Best Newcomer at the Sydney Comedy Festival and a Best Newcomer Nomination at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Her laconic take on everything from romance to passive aggressive co-workers earned Chris spots in Galas at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival, Just For Laughs Australia, Canberra Comedy Festival, Floriade Nightfest ) TEDx Canberra After feature Melbourne International Comedy Festival Up Front Women’s Gala, the Audible Presents Live event, Chris was invited to tour with Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow across South-West Western Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania, the ACT and Victoria.

She has hosted and performed at major events including co-hosting the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, Canberra Writers Festival and the RSL & Services Clubs and Leagues Clubs Australia National Conference.
“She seems to be one of those rare comedians that are so good at what they do, and so comfortable doing it, that they make comedy seem easy. She commanded the attention of the room effortlessly; she evoked waves of laughter without so much as a sweat… Ryan has all the wisdom that comes with life experience with little of the (boring!) maturity, and it’s fantastic.” BMA Magazine
“Unapologetic and ruthlessly clever, one of Canberra’s funniest people.” Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase Tour
