Rodney Soils Workshop Saturday 2nd May

Terra Preta is a man-made soil from clay, biochar and a healthy microbiome. It is one of the best agricultural soils and carbon sinks on the planet. We have been experimenting with recreating terra preta for the past 7 years with amazing results. This workshop shares what we have done to start creating a friable, fertile, carbon-rich soil out of CLAY.

The workshop is free for those who have had to miss previous workshops.   There are a few more spaces left for those who have yet to sign up. Cost is $5.00

The course has been re-designed to be hands-on.  Bringing a sample of your topsoil and subsoil is recommended.  We are out of soil boxes, but a long, 50cm cardboard box will do. Instructions and the address of the workshop will be sent to those who sign up. The courses will cover: 

·         Finding your Soil type, Catchment Area and Land Use Capability on the Landcare Research Maps

·         Learning about the properties of biochar and its synergistic benefits with plants, soil microbiome and composting

·         Discussion and handouts on how to prepare and use biochar on raw clay and in productive gardens

·         Tour of the banana farm to see different methods being used in an orchard, a veggie garden and a banana plantation to modify the soil
