Romy Wymer and Bado Reti - Free Lunchtime Concerts

Romy & Bado are a new musical duo formed in early 2026, bringing together the distinctive and complementary sounds of Celtic harp and double bass.

Dutch harpist and composer Romy Wymer and Hungarian multi-instrumentalist and composer Bado Reti first began developing material together with a shared curiosity about what could happen when these two versatile instruments meet. The result is an intimate yet expansive sound, drawing on folk traditions, jazz, classical music and improvisation, with space for both delicate acoustic textures and more rhythmic, adventurous explorations.

The duo made their debut at the Celtic Connections Open Stage 2026, where their first performances and original compositions received an enthusiastic response from fellow musicians and audiences. They are now developing a larger repertoire of original material with the ambition of creating a full album.

Bado Reti is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and performer whose work spans folk, jazz, rock, metal, classical, world and experimental music. Classically trained on double bass and also an electric bassist, oud player and composer, he has worked internationally for more than two decades and collaborated across musical and performing-arts disciplines. His long standing work with the aerial-theatre company Paper Doll Militia has seen him compose and perform music for theatre, while his Bado Reti Group explores folk influences through an improvisational jazz approach. Their debut album, Black Soup, was released in 2024.

Romy  Wymer graduated with first class honors from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She writes and plays with harp trio The Willow Trio who have recently released their second album 'the Bestiary’. She has also appeared on Glasgow jazz collective Azamiah's debut album 'In Phases’.

Her distinctive approach to the Celtic harp brings a strong sense of colour, rhythm and atmosphere to the duo. Together, Romy and Bado are interested in the unusual musical relationship between harp and double bass — instruments that can be both melodic and percussive, capable of producing warmth, resonance and rhythmic interplay.

Their music is rooted in storytelling and collaboration rather than a single genre. Bowed and plucked double bass meets the intricate textures of the harp, creating a space where composed passages can open into improvisation and familiar influences can be transformed into something unexpected.

Following their Celtic Connections debut, Romy & Bado are excited to continue developing this new collaboration and explore the full expressive possibilities of these two remarkable instruments.

Pianodrome Bruntsfield is at The St.Oswald's Center at 41 Montpelier Park, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh EH10 4NB, just parallel to the main street and next to the primary school.
