Room to grow: Shaping the professional development and our core capabilities in community mental health
Description
About this session
Good practice needs room to grow. This session brings together two connected pieces of work led by QAMH under the Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Workforce Strategy 2024–2029:
Professional Development Audit, to understand what development the workforce can actually access, what helps, and where the gaps are.
The Core Capability Framework, which maps the shared capabilities of Queensland's community mental health sector. It has been shaped by close to 100 people so far, including lived experience, peer, multicultural and First Nations voices. We're now working on Version 2, less about the bones and more about the detail.
What we'll talk about
Professional development?
What's working
What gets in the way
Iimportantly what's missing?
Core Capability Framework
Whether the framework sounds like our work, and whether it's clear and accessible
Real examples of what capabilities look like at different levels
How deeper knowledge sits within the framework, and what's missing
Using it: where the framework could help you, and what would make it feel helpful rather than restrictive
Who should consider attending
We're looking for a broad range of community mental health practitioners who:
Are currently working in the sector in any role
Have an understanding of their own practice/role and the broader sector. This is because this work affects the sector as a whole.
Can bring their practice knowledge and experience to a collaborative conversation
You don't need to have attended previous consultations, and you don't need to be in a senior or leadership role. We want the diversity of the sector in the room.
We particularly welcome expressions of interest from practitioners who are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, from a multicultural or diverse community background, and those with Lived and Living expertise. We recognise that not everyone can attend in a paid capacity, and remuneration may be available where participation is outside your role.
There will also be focused conversations for peer, multicultural and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforces, if that is a space or conversation you would prefer to be apart of (or both) please let us know.
There are also alternative ways to contribute may also be available if you are unable to attend.
What to expect
• Online
• 2.5 hours, including a 15 minute break
• Interactive, small group conversations, so there are different ways to take part
• A short, anonymous professional development survey. You can complete it before the session, or during time we'll set aside on the day.
Remuneration
Remuneration is available for people taking part outside a paid role, at the Health Consumers Queensland - Collaborate level. Let us know when you register.
Recording and notes
We use AI note-taking tools to help capture what's shared. Nothing will be attributed to you by name without your permission. We'll talk through this at the start, and you can let us know if you'd prefer not to be recorded.
Accessibility
Let us know what you need to take part fully, in the registration form or by contacting us.
