Root & Gather — Autumn
Root & Gather — Autumn
October.
The leaves are turning. The nights are drawing in. Things are changing out there — and probably in here too.
So we’re gathering again.
Root & Gather is something Emma and I have been creating together for the last few years. It changes with the seasons, and lately we’ve been letting it change a little too.
This October we want to make more room for creativity.
We’ll move. We’ll breathe. We’ll drink cacao.
But there’ll also be words. Poetry. Stories. Things to make with our hands. Writing. Sound. Maybe a little singing.
And, eventually, we’ll lie down under blankets and do absolutely nothing for a while.
Autumn is so often talked about as the season of letting go. We’re not sure it needs to be quite that simple.
Maybe some things come with us.
The people. The memories. The bits of ourselves we’ve grown into. The things this year has taught us. The things we’re still figuring out.
So this gathering is less about getting rid of things and more about noticing.
What has this year given you?
What feels finished?
What is worth keeping?
And what would you quite like to carry with you into winter?
No need to arrive feeling particularly zen.
Come as you are.

What we’ll get up to
Movement and Qigong. Breath. Cacao. Poetry and words. Making something with our hands. Writing. A little voice and sound. Conversation. And a long lie down at the end. We are a little intuitive too - so perhaps this will change slightly!
Who are we?
We’re Gillian Campbell and Emma Toms, the two humans behind Root & Gather.
Between us, our backgrounds span yoga, movement, breathwork, sound, meditation, nervous-system work, Reiki, coaching and healthcare — but Root & Gather has never really been about collecting practices.
It grew from a shared curiosity about what happens when we slow things down, pay attention to the season we’re actually in, and make space to be together.
Over the past four years our gatherings have changed as we have. We’ve become increasingly interested in nature, creativity, food, words, sound, making things with our hands and the simple act of gathering people together.
We’re still learning too. And that’s very much part of it.
