Rooted Rhythm: Afro-Caribbean Dance to the beat of the Tambora
Event description
A journey of movement, culture, and connection — from Colombia to Tasmania
Get ready for a vibrant journey of dance, rhythm, and self-connection in “Rooted Rhythm”, a 4-week workshop inspired by the traditional Afro-Caribbean dances of Colombia’s Caribbean coast, where the tambora drum leads the way.
This immersive month experience will awaken your body and spirit through powerful movement, ancestral rhythms, and deep body awareness. Each week builds on the last, guiding you through grounding, coordination, rhythm, and a final celebratory choreography.
🔸 Week 1 - Grounded & Rooted:
Reconnect with the Earth through your feet. This class focuses on footwork, grounded energy, and the foundational leg movements of the tambora dance.
🔸 Week 2 - Upper & Lower Body Connection:
We explore body isolation and coordination, freeing shoulders, chest, and hips to move independently and with intention.
🔸 Week 3 - Feel the Flow with LIVE MUSIC:
Let go and move with the drum. You’ll develop rhythm awareness and learn to trust your body’s natural response to music.
🔸 Week 4 - Celebration Through Choreography:
Bring it all together in a joyful final choreography. A collective expression of everything we’ve explored: rhythm, movement, and spirit.
No dance experience needed, just curiosity, openness, and a willingness to connect with your body and a new cultural rhythm.
Limited spots. Join this unique celebration of Afro-Caribbean heritage, drum, and dance right here in Hobart!
