Semenawa - Suffering in Rope
A beginner to intermediate level shibari class on semenawa or ‘pain’ rope.
This class will cover:
Discussion around the concepts of semenawa, examining how we can use rope to create suffering both physically and mentally
Practical exercises to explore semenawa with a graduated approach, including how to build scenes and play
Negotiation, safety, and collaboration methods for rope tops and bottoms
Bottom specific information around pain processing, developing body awareness and intentional suffering
Sensual Rope - Erotic Connection and Movement
A beginner to intermediate shibari class on sensual and connective tying.
This class will cover:
Basic concepts of movement and connective tying, examining how we can use rope in a sensual and erotic manner to explore and connect
Practical exercises to explore sensual rope with a graduated approach from creative bedroom ties to building shibari scenes
Clothing and rope - tying in, on and around clothes to heighten experience
Negotiation, safety, and collaboration methods for rope tops and bottoms
Who are the classes for?
Anyone that wants to explore rope as a pathway to connect no matter the background of rope school or experience
Models and tops of any size/shape/ability (all taught ties have modifications)
Anyone interested in rope somatics and nerdy rope things
Tying partners - each class has practical elements so come with someone you are comfortable tying with
Pre-requisites/class requirements
Tying partner you are comfortable with
Tying knowledge - non-collapsing single column tie, inline/hojo cuffs
Communication knowledge - experience with negotiation, and the ability to clearly communicate boundaries throughout the class
Switching is welcome
To bring to class - 6-8 lengths of rope (ideally jute, but whatever you are comfortable with*), cutting implement, yoga mat, drink bottle, notebook
Rope in both classes will be used in intimate areas (crotch/mouth/etc) and may become fluid bonded with tying partner - please be aware of this when considering the type of rope you want to bring to class
To wear to class - comfortable semi-formal clothes for tying in (i.e. not sports wear). Think what you’d wear for scenes and play (unless you do wear sports wear for play, in which case go ahead!)
Your Presenter and Demo Models:
Himboy (they/he) is a trans gender fluid human living and teaching on unceded Wurundjeri country in Naarm/Melbourne. He has been in and around the rope community and an active member of the broader kink scene since 2016. In 2020 Himboy co-founded Melbourne Community Rope, a queer led not-for-profit teaching collective of rope educators. He has previously taught at Peer Rope Melbourne, Mannhaus’ ‘The Establishment’ series, Hitchcraft Sydney, The Bindery Perth, as well as in private lessons around Australia. Presenting adult education on a range of topics, from rope and movement, to bottom education and other BDSM topics, he focuses on developing accessibility in his teaching, considering intersectionality and trauma-informed approaches. A lifelong learner, he frequently attends classes in person and online from a range of teachers.
Penn
Penn (they/them) are a non-binary queer person, born and raised in Naarm. They are an avid BDSM and shibari enthusiast with over six years of rope modeling experience, spanning performance, education, and intimate exploration.
Jack
Jack (he/they) is a leatherman based in Naarm. New to rope but not to kink, he is enjoying explorations of surrender, intimacy and pleasure in shibari, and is excited to build community and learn more about himself through rope.
