A French-inspired Cathedral choir sponsored by Hello Music will enhance the experience. Light refreshments will be provided ahead of a guided tour of the exhibition by the team of the Immigration Museum.
Join us for an opportunity for fellowship through the arts and support the Immigration Museum, an important Melbourne institution
About the exhibition:
Experience the spectacular history of Notre-Dame de Paris in an immersive augmented reality takeover of the Long Room at the Immigration Museum. Opening on Friday 6 December 2024—just days before the cathedral itself reopens in Paris—this exhibition offers a 3D, 360-degree journey through eight centuries of architectural brilliance, from Notre-Dame’s medieval foundations to its painstaking restoration following the devastating 2019 fire.
Created in collaboration with digital heritage specialists Histovery and supported by Presenting Partner L’Oréal Group, visitors explore each pivotal moment using a HistoPad augmented reality device. Step back in time to witness the cathedral’s earliest origins, the lavish wedding of King Henry IV, the glittering coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the nineteenth-century construction of its iconic spire. The exhibition reveals the artistry and vision of architects, craftsmen, and builders through the ages, culminating in today’s restoration that will soon return Notre-Dame to its former glory.
About the Cathedral Choir: Alchemy Consort
Alchemy Consort will present a program aligned with the Notre Dame Exhibition to further “augment” the augmented reality of the exhibition at the Immigration Museum. Alchemy is renowned for thematic enhancement, the incorporation of choreography in musical performance, and exploiting the unique acoustics of unusual performance spaces.
Amplifying the themes of the beautifully conceived Notre Dame exhibition, Alchemy will perform:
- Gregorian chant in honour of the Virgin Mary,
- music by Notre Dame’s own composers to accompany St. Louis’s procession delivering the Crown of Thorns and fragment of the Cross to the Cathedral,
- imperial music for the crowning of Josephine and Napoleon,
- evocative music to conjure the bells and light of the Cathedral,
- and less reverential music capturing the market cries and bustling atmosphere outside the Cathedral.
Join us at the Notre Dame Augmented Exhibition for an immersive, culture-tech experience, featuring a guided tour, refreshments, immersive live cathedral music and great networking.
