Rotary Club of Lindisfarne Talks - Michael Whittle
Event description
More than 27,000 strokes will be experienced by Australians this year – that is one stroke every 19 minutes.
But the good news is that it doesn't need to be this way. Up to 80% of strokes are preventable.
Volunteer StrokeSafe Speaker Mike Whittle was 62 years of age and working as the Human Resources Manager at CSIRO when he experienced two strokes.
After spending weeks in hospital and many months in rehabilitation, Mike eventually returned to work.
In addition to being a StrokeSafe Speaker, Mike is Co-ordinator of the Hobart Stroke Support Group.
He is also on the Cardiovascular Research Lived Experience Advisory Group at the UTAS Menzies Institute for Medical Research.
Mike will draw on his own personal experiences to present an educational and engaging talk on:
- What stroke is and how to recognise the signs of stroke
- What to do if someone is having a stroke
- How to prevent strokes in you or the people you love
