Speaker Dr Ashleigh Morrice-West
Topic: TBA
Ashleigh holds a dual role at the University of Melbourne’s Equine Centre as a Research Fellow and Sports Medicine Clinician.
Following her veterinary degree, Ashleigh completed a PhD at the University of Melbourne, conferred in November 2020, investigating training and racing workloads in Thoroughbred racehorses and their relationship to performance and bone fatigue.
She brings extensive knowledge of the Australian and international thoroughbred racing industries, drawing on her academic research, engagement with racing industry regulators and participants, and clinical experience treating and managing horses at the Equine Centre.
In 2023, Ashleigh was accepted as a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Her current research focuses on wearable technology for injury prediction and advanced imaging to identify horses at increased risk of fracture. She has a particular interest in the diagnosis and management of stress-induced musculoskeletal injuries in both racehorses and performance horses.
Outside of work Ashleigh enjoys riding and making happy pets out of Off The Track Thoroughbreds.
